Good morning, DC!
The entire concept for what I hope this blog will eventually become is based around one question:
What is luxury?
Is it diamonds and fancy cars? A nice dinner with loved ones? Or is it something simple, like watching the sun setting behind the monument? Luxury means different things to different people. To me, luxury is defined by two words: The best. The best clothes, the best food, the best experiences, the best company -- the best. Acquiring the best, however, is not an easy (or cheap) task. It takes a considerable amount of research, time, and money.
I have spent the last 22 years of my life on a constant search for luxury. I rarely find it acceptable to settle for second best. And it wasn't until I had graduated high school that I realized what a wealth of luxury we have here in our own backyard. DC is overflowing with fashion savants, fine chefs, and some of the most talented artists I have ever come across.
In this blog, I hope to open your eyes to new luxuries available here in the DC metro area. Luxury in it's truest sense. Fine dining, fashion with a uniquely DC sensibility, art and events. You may be asking - 'what makes you an expert on luxury?' Don't get me wrong - I don't pretend to be an expert on food, fashion, or culture - but I'm an ordinary person who enjoys going out and having a good time. Think of me as your guide - scoping out trendy hot spots as well as modest venues to help you decide where to go tonight, where to sit, what to order, etc. I'll [hopefully] review a variety of restaurants, boutiques, events and galleries, and hopefully inspire you to look for the luxuries in your own life.
The greatest luxury in the world, I have found, is to see the world with new eyes.
Cheers,
The DC Sophisticate
